Chalk the Harbor

Chalk the Harbor & Waterfront Art Walk is one of Gig Harbor’s most vibrant and beloved traditions. This free, family-friendly event invites the community to transform the sidewalks of Harborview Drive into a colorful outdoor gallery—featuring chalk art of all styles, sizes, and skill levels.

Spend the day exploring a lively, district-wide celebration of creativity. In addition to street chalking, enjoy live art demonstrations, local artist showcases, and interactive experiences designed to engage visitors of all ages. Whether you’re creating, observing, or simply soaking it all in, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Our goal is to create a dynamic and welcoming environment that celebrates artistic expression, fosters creativity, and highlights the unique culture and charm of Gig Harbor’s waterfront.

Highlights of Chalk the Harbor and Waterfront Art Walk 2026 include:

  • Chalk Art Experience: Participants are invited to register between 9am and 12pm at Skansie Brothers Park to create their own sidewalk masterpieces. Free chalk will be provided. Those who wish to enter the contest must photograph and submit completed art by 3:00pm for judging in youth, teen, family, adult, and group categories.

  • Live Glass Blowing Demonstrations: Experience the excitement of Puget Sound Glass Blowing's Mobile Hot Shop at Skansie Brothers Park. Watch professional glass artists transform molten glass into beautiful works of art throughout the day.

  • Featured Professional Chalk Artist Raziah Roushan: Watch nationally recognized chalk artist Raziah Roushan create a spectacular large-scale maritime mural throughout the day. Based in Portland, Oregon, Raziah works in oil, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, aerosol, printmaking, murals, and large-scale chalk art. Find her creating near the pavilion at Skansie Brothers Park.

  • Waterfront District Artist Demonstrations & Showcases: Explore participating waterfront businesses hosting local artists, makers, and live demonstrations featuring a variety of artistic mediums.

  • Community Art Project – "Buoy Oh Buoy": Help create this year's collaborative community art project by painting a maritime tag that will become part of a larger waterfront art installation. Participants of all ages and artistic abilities are invited to contribute. Each completed tag will be attached to authentic fishing floats and netting generously donated by a local fishing family, creating a colorful display that celebrates Gig Harbor's rich maritime heritage and the creativity of our community.

  • Live Music and Community Performing Art Showcase: Enjoy live music throughout the day, culminating in a new Community Performing Arts Showcase featuring local musicians, theater groups and dance.

  • Porch Concerts and Keepsake Art in the Harborview Village Arts Corner: Join the businesses in Harborview Village for student performances at Con Brio Piano Studio and stop by MD Studio to print a favorite photo of your chalk artwork and decorate a custom keepsake magnet frame. Your chalk art may not last forever—but your memories can.

We look forward to seeing you on the waterfront!
